This year’s Tampere Jazz Happening visitor survey not only looked at audience background data and visitor satisfaction, but also the climate impact of festival visits. The data collected shows that festival trips are made in an ecological way.
Roughly four out of ten visitors of the Tampere Jazz Happening came from outside Tampere. Close to 60% of them said they had travelled at least part of their journey by train, and around one in ten had taken the bus.
The most important factors in the transport choice were smooth travel (50%), travelling time (17%) and ecology (9%). Public transport was also considered to be by far the most convenient way of reducing the carbon footprint of a festival trip.
– I am delighted that our audience has noticed how easy it is to get to the festival by public transport. The Tampere railway station is located right next to our concert venues and there are also tram and bus stops nearby, says Executive Director Minnakaisa Kuivalainen.
A loyal audience
The visitor survey also revealed that the audience at Tampere Jazz Happening has a very loyal audience: more than half have attended the event at least five times. However, a fifth of respondents were first timers. Participation is also usually decided well in advance – at least a month before the event.
– We would like to take this opportunity to remind you to make your accommodation reservations in advance for the next year. Tampere is now a popular tourist destination all year round and the capacity of affordable accommodation is not always sufficient if there are several popular events on the same weekend. Most hotels have a cancellation policy that allows you to cancel your booking even during the week of your stay, if you need to cancel the festival trip is cancelled for one reason or another”, advises Katariina Pasuri, press officer for the Tampere Music Festival.
Roses and some thorns
Visitors gave the festival an overall rating of 8.84 (on a scale of 1 to 10). They were especially satisfied with the quality and diversity of the programme, the successful organisation and the good atmosphere. The ambiance and location of the Customs House were also praised, while the comfort of the seats in Pakkahuone attracts critiques every year. The volume of the sound system is also a perennial issue, dividing opinions from one year to another.
Visitors were also satisfied with the timing and punctuality of the shows. The festival team would like to remind the audience that, although the 45-minute breaks between concerts may seem long, every minute is needed to ensure that the band changes are carried out safely, to a high standard and on schedule.
