The programme of the 40th anniversary festival culminates on Sunday with a duo of guitarist John Scofield and bassist Dave Holland. We got Scofield for a small interview straight from the tour.
Yazz Ahmed, who opens the Saturday afternoon concert at Pakkahuone, arrives in Finland straight from the Azores. Her new album Polyhymnia is named after the Greek Muse and dedicated to women – and first and foremost to the “courage, determination, and creativity of women”.

Because the Covid-19 pandemic guidelines for events have recently been changed towards fewer restrictions, the Tampere Jazz Happening will complement its anniversary festival programme with a late-night event. On Friday 5 November, Malian singer-guitarist Habib Koité will arrive to perform a concert at Klubi.
ESINAM, who recently released her debut album, will perform solo at the opening concert of Tampere Jazz Happening. She is arriving in Finland for the first time in her career, and a lot is happening in her life at the moment.
During four days, altogether 23 ensembles will perform at the festival, including the winner of this year’s Yrjö Award, who will be performing in conjunction with the award ceremony that takes place at the festival.
The Tampere Jazz Happening of 2020 will be remembered as an exceptional festival year in many ways.
